It is located at the foot of the Sierra Alhama, near the Boquete de Zafarraya, a passageway created by nature, in a slightly sloping area that reaches as far as Vélez, adding a splash of color to the La Viñuela reservoir. It is surrounded by orchards and olive groves, famous for its peaches and high quality oil.

The village is relatively modern. Its most important buildings include the church of San Isidro Labrador in Neo-Mudejar style. Also the marketplaces of Lomilleja and la Fuente.

Visit the nearby Baños de Vilo (Baths of Vilo): An Arab bath with calcium and nitrogen water of high quality, with a temperature of 21 degrees.
